Joy Cooper is the Democrat mayor of Hallandale Beach, Florida. She’s in big trouble after being caught money laundering by the FBI in what was basically a sting operation.

Florida mayor busted in FBI sting
Authorities say the mayor of Hallandale Beach has been arrested on three felony charges following an undercover FBI investigation.
The Broward State Attorney’s Office said in a news release Thursday that Mayor Joy Cooper has surrendered on the charges. It wasn’t immediately clear if she has a lawyer to represent her.
The felony charges are money laundering, official misconduct and exceeding campaign contribution limits. Prosecutors say Cooper, a Democrat, also is charged with the misdemeanor soliciting contributions in a government building.

Hallandale mayor freed from jail after arrest in FBI sting
Longtime Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Cooper has been freed from jail after her arrest in a public corruption case linked to disbarred Hollywood attorney Alan Koslow.
Cooper, 57, was charged with three felonies Thursday, accused of meeting with wealthy land developers who were actually undercover FBI agents pretending to seek political favor for a project in Hallandale Beach.
She is alleged to have solicited and accepted $5,000 in political campaign contributions from them that were funneled to her through Koslow, court records show.
It looks like her political career may be over, but who knows? She is a Democrat, after all.
