DISGRACEFUL: Veterans Affairs Staff Reportedly Did Nothing About Cockroaches On Food Trays

Trump is trying to make improvements at the VA but it’s such a huge department with staff and hospitals all over the country. In other words, it’s a big problem.

One VA facility in Illinois reportedly did nothing about cockroaches on the food and serving trays.

Unreal.

The Washington Examiner reports:

Veterans Affairs hospital staff knew of roaches on food trays but didn’t get rid of them, report finds

Cockroaches were a “persistent presence” at a veterans hospital in Illinois and the administrators were aware of the problem but failed to remove them, the Veterans Affairs Department’s Office of Inspector General confirmed. The insects were found in and around the food service areas and even on food trays served to patients at the Edward Hines Jr. VA hospital in Hines, Ill.

“During our unannounced site visit on May 10, 2016, we found dead cockroaches on glue traps dispersed throughout the facility’s main kitchen. We observed conditions favorable to pest infestation,” said the inspector general in a report dated Wednesday. The inspection was sparked by a whistleblower’s report.

he report found that the roach situation was known to hospital administrators but that they had failed to remove the bugs. “We substantiated that at least several patients received food trays with cockroaches on them. We reviewed emails from mental health staff to (nutrition and food service) managers from March 11, 2011, through December 28, 2015, and a (mental health) report dated March 13, 2014, that reported six complaints from patients that cockroaches were present on food trays delivered from the facility’s main kitchen to the MH unit via a transportation cart.”

Our veterans deserve so much better than this.
