Alan Dershowitz is one of the most well known and highly respected law professors in the country. He appeared on the Tucker Carlson show on Friday night to talk about the news that former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe held high level talks to discuss the removal of Trump.
According to Dershowitz, if McCabe and others were talking about using the 25th Amendment, this was a coup.

Alan Dershowitz: Ousting Trump via 25th Amendment is ‘clearly an attempt at a coup d’etat’
Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz on Thursday said the Department of Justice’s discussions to employ the 25th Amendment to oust President Trump– if true– amounted to an attempted coup.
Dershowitz appeared on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” to give his take on former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s descriptions of Justice Department meetings where he said officials discussed ousting the president.
“If [McCabe’s comments are] true, it is clearly an attempt at a coup d’état,” Dershowitz said.
Evoking the 25th Amendment, Dershowitz added, would be a fundamental misuse of its original purpose. He said it was originally “about Woodrow Wilson having a stroke. It’s about a president being shot and not being able to perform his office.”
Dershowitz said any justice official who discussed the 25th Amendment in the context of ousting the president “has committed a grievous offense against the Constitution.”

Trump quotes Alan Dershowitz saying consideration of 25th Amendment ‘despicable’
President Trump quoted Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz Thursday night to defend himself amid renewed talk that Justice Department officials weighed asking Cabinet members to consider invoking the 25th Amendment to remove the president from office.
“Any Justice Department official who even mentioned the 25th Amendment in the context of President Trump has committed a grievous offense against the Constitution,” Dershowitz told Fox New’s Tucker Carlson on Thursday.
“The framers of the 25th Amendment had in mind something very specific and trying to use the 25th Amendment to circumvent the impeachment provisions or to circumvent an election is a despicable act of unconstitutional power grabbing,” Dershowitz continued.

“Trying to use the 25th Amendment to try and circumvent the Election is a despicable act of unconstitutional power grabbing…which happens in third world countries. You have to obey the law. This is an attack on our system & Constitution.” Alan Dershowitz. @TuckerCarlson
