Bernie Sanders Supporters Aren’t Obeying His Command to Back Hillary Clinton

Bernie Sanders hit the stump for Hillary Clinton on Monday and repeated his call to his supporters to back Hillary Clinton but many of them just aren’t buying what he’s selling.

The New York Times reports:

Despite Bernie Sanders’s Urging, Die-Hards Still Resist Hillary Clinton

Outside Senator Bernie Sanders’s first general-election rally for Hillary Clinton on Monday, a small group of Clinton supporters and former Sanders backers glared at one another.

“H-I-L-L-A-R-Y, Hillary, Hillary, Our Nominee,” the Clinton supporters shouted, frowning at several people just steps away wearing “Bernie 2016” T-shirts.

“Never Hillary!” the former Sanders supporters yelled back, as some declared they would vote for Jill Stein, the Green Party presidential nominee.

The division is exactly the kind Mr. Sanders hopes to avoid in November. It is also why he spent 36 minutes at Lebanon High School here urging people to vote for Mrs. Clinton and laying out why he believes that Donald J. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, is a “pathological liar.”

“On issue after issue, there should be no doubt in anybody’s mind as to whether Hillary Clinton is the superior candidate because in every respect she is,” Mr. Sanders said to the crowd of about 300 people. “I intend, as a United States senator, to do everything that I can between now and Election Day to make certain that Donald Trump does not become the next president of the United States.”

But Lois Corcoran, a former Sanders supporter who plans to vote for Ms. Stein, said she refused to accept the idea that people must vote for Mrs. Clinton if they do not want to see Mr. Trump in office. She said it would not be her fault if the businessman is elected and is frustrated that Mr. Sanders will not back Ms. Stein, who she believes shares more of his ideas.

“I feel very betrayed by him,” said Ms. Corcoran, 52, of Charlestown, N.H. “He says it’s not the man, it’s the message, but yet he’s jumped over to the Democrats’ message.”…

Will Coleman, 51, of Windsor, Vt., held a poster with Mrs. Clinton’s picture on it that read “Career Criminal.” A former Sanders supporter, Mr. Coleman will be voting for Ms. Stein, he said, because he believes Mrs. Clinton is dishonest, will engage in international wars and has long supported unfair trade deals.

“It crushed me that Bernie Sanders flipped over and he is campaigning for her,” Mr. Coleman said.

This news will come as no surprise to anyone who saw the footage of protests outside the Democratic convention.

Democrats and their media allies would have you believe that Bernie supporters are backing Hillary but there’s obviously still a lot of anger there.
