It was recently revealed that CNN’s Chris Cuomo used resources available to him as a member of the media to snoop on some of the women who had accused his then-governor brother of sexual harassment.
Many people speculated that he wouldn’t suffer any consequences, considering the fact that Jeffrey Toobin is still employed at the network after committing a lewd act on a Zoom call.
On Tuesday night, it was announced that CNN had suspended Cuomo indefinitely.
NBC News in New York reports:
CNN Suspends Chris Cuomo ‘Indefinitely’ After Transcripts Showed His Role Advising Brother
CNN suspended anchor Chris Cuomo indefinitely on Tuesday, as the network stated that transcripts showed he had a bigger role than previously known in helping defend his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, from sexual harassment allegations that forced him out of office.
The text messages and transcripts, which were made public on Monday, showed that the host of “Cuomo Prime Time” offered to reach out to “sources,” including other reporters, to find out whether more women were going to come forward and relayed what he was hearing to his brother’s advisers.
He also sparred with the former governor’s aides over strategy, urging an apologetic tone and critiquing an early statement that he saw as downplaying the allegations. He accused a top aide of hiding information from his brother.
Mediaite has the full statement from CNN:
The New York Attorney General’s office released transcripts and exhibits Monday that shed new light on Chris Cuomo’s involvement in his brother’s defense. The documents, which we were not privy to before their public release, raise serious questions. When Chris admitted to us that he had offered advice to his brother’s staff, he broke our rules and we acknowledged that publicly.
But we also appreciated the unique position he was in and understood his need to put family first and job second. However, these documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother’s efforts than we previously knew. As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely, pending further evaluation.
If history is any guide, CNN will wait a few months until this story is out of the news and then bring him back.
