On CNN’s New Day Thursday, correspondent Clarissa Ward reported live from Afghanistan, where people desperate to escape the country after the Taliban’s return to power have taken extraordinary acts. “We have seen and heard these reports,” Ward said, of “people so desperate they are passing and throwing their babies over the razor wire to try and get them into safety.”

Ward described the chaos in Kabul as “an absolute mess” where rumors are rampant and clear information about how Afghan families who helped support Americans during their time in Afghanistan would be safely evacuated from the country. CNN cited reports the Taliban may be actively searching for those families…

Reacting to the president’s remarks, Ward said “I think a lot of people outside that airport, particularly those taking the kinds of extreme actions we’re talking about, would like to know if this isn’t failure – what does failure look like exactly?
