An arrest warrant was executed at Tyler’s home at 7:30 a.m., according to Chris Bavender, spokeswoman with the FBI in Indianapolis. Tyler is currently in FBI custody, Bavender said.

Bavender referred any additional questions to the US Attorney’s Office, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Tyler’s administration has been under scrutiny for several years now as investigators conducted a federal corruption probe, CNN affiliate WXIN reported. Earlier this year, the city’s former building commissioner was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud and money laundering, WXIN reported.

Indiana mayor Dennis Tyler arrested by FBI in City Hall corruption probe

Muncie, Ind., Mayor Dennis Tyler — a Democrat nearing the end of his second term in office — was arrested Monday by the FBI as part of a sprawling public corruption probe that has snared several officials in his administration.

The indictment charged Tyler, 76, with one count of theft of government funds, Fox 59 Indianapolis reported.

Prosecutors alleged he accepted $5,000 from a sanitation department official named Tracy Barton in exchange for using his influence in the awarding of contracts, according to the station.

The charge would carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum $250,000 fine.

Amazingly, even some liberal media outlets are covering this:

It must be serious if even they are covering it.
