Cancel culture is coming to New York City.
The far left mayor Bill de Blasio is trying to have a statue of Thomas Jefferson removed from city hall.
Remember when Trump warned that if we started taking down Confederate statues that the left would eventually come for people like Lincoln and Washington and everyone on the left said that wasn’t true?
Once again, Trump was right.
The New York Post reports:
De Blasio’s latest outrageous target: The author of the Declaration of Independence
Still peeved that the city has no Confederate monuments he can remove, lame-duck Mayor Bill de Blasio is instead ousting Thomas Jefferson from City Hall’s Council chambers.
He hoped to do it on the down low, having his handpicked Design Commission quietly vote Monday to pack the 187-year-old statue (gifted to the city in 1834) off to the New-York Historical Society. Perhaps enough public outcry can stop it.
We’re talking about the guy on Mount Rushmore, the author of the Declaration of Independence, and a statue whose replica sits in the US Capitol.
Yes, Jefferson owned slaves — but he penned the words, “All men are created equal,” that led inexorably to the end of slavery.
People are trying to save the statue.
‘Save Our Statue’ rally held ahead of NYC vote on Thomas Jefferson sculpture
The commission will vote on placing the statue, which dates back to 1833, on “long term loan” to the Historical Society.
The vote is on its “consent” agenda, meaning there will be no public debate. The commission will review public statements and make its decision.
Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa held a “Save Our Statue” rally at City Hall Thursday, demanding the statue stay put.
The left is actively trying to erase America’s history.
They want to reinvent the country in their own image.
