The GOP may have a new congressional candidate in Ohio very soon. And he’s a former NFL player! Anthony Gonzalez, who used to play for the Colts is considering a run.
The Hill reports:
Ex-NFL player considering run for Congress in Ohio
Former NFL wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez is considering a run for Ohio’s 16th Congressional District, Republican sources told a Cleveland newspaper.
Gonzalez, 32, who played for the Indianapolis Colts and briefly for the New England Patriots, is holding meetings in preparation for a potential run for the seat currently held by Republican Rep. Jim Renacci, Cleveland.com reports.
Renacci, a former businessman and mayor, is expected to run for governor next year, leaving the seat open.
Gonzalez has reportedly met with the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) to discuss potentially entering the 2018 race but has not announced publicly. A source close to Gonzalez told the paper that he is seriously considering the run and will make a decision soon.
GOP State Reps. Tom Patton and Christina Hagan have also announced their candidacy for the Republican-leaning district’s primary in May.
Here’s something you may not know about Gonzalez. He has an MBA from Stanford University! That alone would make him an attractive candidate. This guy has a lot going for him. Let’s hope he runs!
