Mike Rowe, former host of the “Dirty Jobs” called out the hypocrisy of Hampshire College for refusing to fly the American flag. Jonathan Lash, President of the college wants to focus attention on addressing racist, misogynistic, Islamophobic, anti-immigrant, anti-Semitic, and anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and behavior instead.

Rowe found it ironic that the school and students find the flag disgusting but on the other hand no disgust when it comes to taking federal money as payment for tuition.

One Facebook user was not impressed by his argument, referring to the flag as a mere symbol. Freedom in this country is our right to speak out against the flag, which is a symbol. If you take away that right, then we have lost all freedom.

As Reported on Rare:

The thing about “mere symbols” is that they represent “mere ideas,” and “mere ideas” are the backbone of “mere humanity.” In the case of the flag, we’re talking about ideas that are wrapped into the Constitution – a document that separates us from every other country on the planet.

For the record tuition at Hampshire College is about $60,000 a year and that’s expensive. But it is a problem that 85% of Hampshire students qualify for federal financial aid. That means We the People are enabling schools like Hampshire to sell a liberal arts degree and get nothing in return but unskilled little socialists living at home with their parents.
