Jonathan Turley is a well known professor from George Washington University. He is also a liberal. But he is betting on Trump when it comes to the fight over the border wall.
He writes at The Hill:
Why Trump will win the wall fight
Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes once said, “If my fellow citizens want to go to hell, I will help them. It is my job.” He was expressing the limited role of courts in challenges to federal law. It is not the task of judges to sit as a super legislature to question the agendas of the political branches. They will gladly send Congress to hell. It only needs to point to the destination.
In the matter of the border wall, Congress could not have been more clear where it was heading. It put itself on the path to institutional irrelevancy, and it has finally arrived. I do not agree there is a national emergency on the southern border, but I do believe President Trump will prevail. This crisis is not the making of Donald Trump. This is the making of Congress.
For decades, Congress frittered away control over its authority, including the power of the purse. I have testified before Congress, warning about the expansion of executive power and the failure of Congress to guard its own authority. The two primary objections have been Congress giving presidents largely unchecked authority and undedicated money. The wall funding controversy today is a grotesque result of both of these failures.
It looks like Turley is right. Because in Texas, they’re getting ready to build.

President Trump’s emergency declaration will potentially free up over $6 billion to build hundreds more miles of barriers along the Southern border. One of the places prioritized for construction is the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, where the majority of illegal crossings now occur. Residents there have strong views about the barrier, both pro and con.
The left seems to be coming to terms with the reality of this. It’s easy to tell because they’re going to protest.

Protesters have planned demonstrations across the U.S. for Presidents Day in response to President Trump’s decision to declare a national emergency for border wall funding.
USA Today reports a wave of protests have been planned from New York to California and Texas to oppose the president’s national emergency declaration.
A number of demonstrations are being planned by the liberal advocacy group, MoveOn.org, and others have been listed on rallylist.com…
“We are mobilizing nonviolent rapid-response events to stand up against Trump’s #FakeNationalEmergency to defend our democracy and immigrant, Muslim, black, and brown communities from Trump’s dangerous national emergency power grab,” the group continues.
So it has come to this. The American left is protesting the protection of America’s border. Amazing.
