Bruce Springsteen has taken it upon himself to be the left’s voice against Trump, and he has released a new song, in attempt to bring back the era of great protest songs.
Newsmax outlines the “creative” angst of the new tune:
Bruce Springsteen released a new protest song Wednesday that bashes President Donald Trump, calling him a “con man” and referencing several controversial comments made by Trump.
“That’s What Makes Us Great” was written by Joe Grushecky, who sent the song to Springsteen for his consideration.
… “Don’t tell me a lie/ And sell it as fact/ I’ve been down that road before/ And I ain’t going back,” some of the lyrics read.
Another part of the song says, “Don’t you brag to me/ That you never read a book/ I never put my faith/ In a con man and his crooks.” The lyrics also speak of immigration issues.
Grushecky told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette he couldn’t support Trump after he appeared to mock a disabled reporter.
Occupy Democrats gleefully reprint the lyrics for you here.
That’s What Makes Us Great
Joe Grushecky:
They come from everywhere
A longing to be free
They come to join us here
From sea to shining sea
Together:
And they all have a dream
As people always will
To be safe and warm
In that shining city on the hill
Grushecky:
Some wanna slam the door
Instead of opening the gate
Aw, let’s turn this thing around
Before it gets too late
Together:
It’s up to me and you
Love can conquer hate
I know this to be true
That’s what makes us great
Springsteen:
Don’t tell me a lie
And sell it as a fact
I’ve been down that road before
And I ain’t goin’ back
And don’t you brag to me
That you never read a book
I never put my faith
In a con man and his crooks
Together:
I won’t follow down that path
And tempt the hands of fate
Aw, let’s turn this thing around
Before it gets too late
It’s up to me and you
Love can conquer hate
Here’s Springsteen justifying his opposition, in spite of many of his fans who supported Trump.
SPRINGSTEEN: Our hearts and our spirits are with all of the people that marched yesterday. And the E-Street Band, we are part of the new resistance. … Plenty of good people voted for Donald Trump on the basis that I’ve written about for thirty years which is industrialization of the United States and globalization and technilogical revolution hit many people very very very very hard, and some of the recovery that occurred in the United States didn’t really get down to a lot of those folks. And so it makes you sort of easy pickings for a demigod which I believe Donald Trump is.
