Like most Democrats, Nancy Pelosi has spent the last four years falsely accusing President Trump of conspiring with Russia and calling it a threat to our democracy.
Now Eric Swalwell, a Democrat Rep. in California, has been caught up in a real scandal with a spy from China, an actual threat to our democracy, and Nancy Pelosi is defending him.
This is about more than hypocrisy. Swalwell may have been compromised.
The Daily Signal reports:
Pelosi Defends Swalwell After His Ties to Alleged Chinese Spy Are Revealed
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi backed Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., on Thursday in response to revelations of his interactions with an alleged Chinese spy, accusing the GOP of harping on the issue to distract from QAnon.
“I don’t have any concern about Mr. Swalwell,” Pelosi, D-Calif., told reporters during her weekly press conference Thursday morning.
“I do think that it is unfortunate that [House Minority Leader Kevin] McCarthy is trying to make an issue of this. But you know what he’s trying to do. He’s trying to deflect attention from the fact that he has QAnon in his delegation over there,” Pelosi added, referring to several incoming GOP lawmakers who have previously supported the baseless conspiracy theory.
Meanwhile, Republican Senator Tom Cotton is calling for Swalwell to be removed from the House Intelligence Committee.
From FOX News:
Growing number of top Republicans call for Swalwell removal from House Intelligence Committee
More top Republicans are calling for Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., to be removed from the House Intelligence Committee after a report from Axios linked Swalwell with a suspected Chinese spy.
“He should not sit on the House Intelligence Committee and have access to classified information,” Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark, told “America’s Newsroom” on Thursday. “Nancy Pelosi needs to answer what she knew and when she knew it. If Eric Swalwell was briefed about this woman in 2015, surely Nancy Pelosi, the House leader, a member of the Gang of Eight, which has access to the most classified secrets of our nation’s government, knew it as well, that she kept him on the House Intelligence Committee for these last five years. They both have a lot of questions to answer and they need to do so in public today.”
Cotton is absolutely correct about this.
