This story is a metaphor for what’s happening in America. In this case, an assemblyman from upstate New York, which is far more conservative than New York City, is complaining that the city voters are deciding everything for everyone else.
CBS News in Albany reports:
Splitting NY into two states? That’s what one Assemblyman is proposing.
Should New York be split into two states?
That’s what one Assemblyman is asking for support from Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie.
Back in January, Assemblyman Stephen Hawley (R) reached out to Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, asking for support on the referendum of splitting New York into two states.
“This is an idea that has been discussed for many years, and one which is especially popular throughout upstate New York,” Hawley said. “It has become abundantly clear in recent years that the New York City voting bloc has forgotten upstate and is imposing their radical left-wing agenda on all of us, whether we like it or not. And that is deeply troubling.”
Hawley is asking for the legislation be passed through committee and brought to a floor vote, following other legislation that was passed on topics of apportion and stricter gun laws.
“If downstate politicians really don’t need upstate, as many of them claim, then there’s no harm in at least asking the question if we should be divided.” said Assemblyman Hawley.
Could this actually happen? It hasn’t worked in California yet.
