CNN has now cut ties with Kathy Griffin over her disgusting anti-Trump photo but Senator Al Franken is going ahead with an event he has scheduled with her in July.
The Hill reports:
Franken not canceling Kathy Griffin event despite pushback
Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) says he still plans to appear at an event with Kathy Griffin despite outrage over the comic posing with a fake decapitated head resembling President Trump.
“Yes,” Franken told CNN’s “New Day” when asked if he plans on appearing with Griffin in July.
“I think she did the right thing,” Franken added of Griffin’s apology. “I think asking for forgiveness and acknowledging that this, this was a horrible mistake.”
The senator and the comedian are scheduled to appear at a July 7 event in in Beverley Hills, Calif.
Minnesota GOP Chairman Jennifer Carnahan on Tuesday said that Franken should scrap the appearance over Griffin’s “deeply disturbing and disconcerting” picture.
“I am calling on Senator Al Franken to cancel the controversial event he has planned with Kathy Griffin on July 7th in Los Angeles,” she wrote on Facebook. “This is no place for this political discourse or lack of human decency.”
