An Obama administration defense official named Evelyn Farkas has been caught in a lie, now that the Russia investigation transcripts have been released.
Back in 2017, she appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe program and pushed the false narrative about members of the incoming Trump administration colluding with Russia.
But when she testified about this, we now know from the transcripts that it was all a lie.
The Federalist reports:
Obama Defense Official Evelyn Farkas Admitted She Lied On MSNBC About Having Evidence Of Collusion
Former Obama administration defense official Evelyn Farkas testified under oath that she lied during an MSNBC interview when she claimed to have evidence of alleged collusion, a newly declassified congressional transcript of her testimony shows.
Farkas testified before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on June 26, 2017, as part of the committee’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election between Donald Trump and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Lawmakers keyed in on an appearance Farkas made on MSNBC on March 2, 2017, in which she urged intelligence community bureaucrats to disseminate within the government and potentially even leak to media any incriminating information they had about Trump or his aides.
“I had a fear that somehow that information would disappear with the senior [Obama administration] people who left…[that] it would be hidden away in the bureaucracy,” Farkas said.
Here’s the video from her 2017 appearance on MSNBC:
Farkas said something very different when she testified a short time later.
FOX News reports:
Farkas’ interview with the committee took place just a couple of months after her comments on MSNBC.
“I didn’t know anything,” Farkas responded to a question from then-Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., asking how she would have known about information in the possession of the Obama administration about Trump-Russia collusion if she didn’t work for the U.S. government anymore. Farkas had left the Obama administration in 2015.
“Then how did you know?” Gowdy replied.
“I didn’t know anything,” Farkas repeated.
“Well, then why would you say, we knew?” Gowdy said.
“So if they found out how we knew –” Farkas continued, before apparently being cut off by Gowdy as the two went back and forth over Farkas’ use of the term “we” and her use of the term “if” in an answer to describe the possibility that there was collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign team.
“You also didn’t know whether or not anybody in the Trump campaign had colluded with Russia, did you?” Gowdy later asked, getting to the point.
“I didn’t,” Farkas said.
This woman is now running for Congress.
After serving Pres Obama in the @DeptofDefense, I sounded the alarm about Russian election interference & stood up to Trump’s corruption.
The right-wing media attacked me, but I didn’t back down. Now, I’m running for Congress in NY17. Join us: https://t.co/sYWqufrHl4#NY17
