Russian President Vladimir Putin supposedly advised his defense chiefs to watch House of Cards – a Netflix original series about a corrupt Democratic couple – to better understand American politics.
The Daily Mail reported:
It’s the hit US drama charting the Machiavellian scheming of a fictional president.
But Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin is so convinced by the twists and turns in House Of Cards that he has advised his defense chiefs to watch it – to get a better understanding of the real American political system.
Speaking ahead of the release of the fifth series on Netflix on Tuesday, Michael Dobbs, the Tory peer whose 1989 novel inspired the series, said: ‘Clearly they think it’s a documentary.
‘Apparently, President Putin told his new minister of defense to watch House Of Cards so that he can understand what goes on in America.’
For those who don’t know, House of Cards stars liberal actor Kevin Spacey who is a ruthless Democratic politician who lies, murders opponents and manipulates the system to achieve power.
Many have compared the main characters on the show – Frank (played by Kevin Spacey) and Claire Underwood – to Bill and Hillary Clinton.
For those who doubt this claim, Kevin Spacey has said that Bill Clinton himself said that the show is accurate.
The Hill reported:
According to Kevin Spacey, his friend Bill Clinton says 99 percent of what’s seen on “House of Cards” is true.
As the star of Netflix’s political thriller, Spacey plays the corrupt and conniving President Frank Underwood. Spacey, who counts former President Clinton among his pals, tells Gotham magazine, while doing his best Clinton impression, “Kevin, 99 percent of what you do on that show is real.”
Continuing with his impersonation of the 42nd president, Spacey says, as Clinton, that there’s one aspect of the show that’s pure fiction. “The 1 percent you get wrong is you could never get an education bill passed that fast.”
It should come as no surprise that Kevin Spacy is a close personal friend of the Clinton’s.
