Tragic Coronavirus Nursing Home Disaster In New York Is Starting To Catch Up To Andrew Cuomo

One of the most under-reported stories of the Coronavirus crisis is what has unfolded in nursing homes in New York.

The media has spent weeks propping up New York Governor Andrew Cuomo as some kind of hero, but he is largely responsibe for a terrible policy which resulted in thousands of deaths.

The Washington Examiner reports:

Thousands of coronavirus patients sent back to nursing homes in New York under Cuomo order

Thousands of elderly coronavirus patients returned to nursing home facilities, potentially putting vulnerable residents at risk, under a controversial executive order from New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

According to a count by the Associated Press, more than 4,300 elderly patients recovering from COVID-19 were sent back because of a March executive order meant to free up hospital beds.

The policy was reversed earlier this month after more than 5,300 nursing home residents died from the virus, with Cuomo ordering the facilities not to readmit COVID-19 patients until they are fully recovered from the virus.

Cuomo defended the policy, saying it was a preventative effort meant to ensure hospitals would not run short on beds if there was a massive influx of patients during the pandemic.

New details are emerging which Cuomo will not be able to ignore. Nether will the media.

The Daily Caller reports:

New York Started Undercounting Nursing Home Resident Deaths After Cuomo Faced Scrutiny

The New York State Department of Health’s quiet switch to a reporting method that undercounts deaths of nursing home and other long-term care facility residents followed the administration facing criticism over skyrocketing deaths in such facilities.

New York knowingly omitted an unknown number of coronavirus deaths in recent reports regarding residents of nursing home and adult care facilities as a result of a quiet rule change, the agency acknowledged to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The state changed the rules for counting nursing home deaths between April 28 and May 3, after several days of scrutiny of a health department order requiring nursing homes and other long-term care facilities to admit or re-admit positive coronavirus patients.

Cuomo is going to have to answer for this eventually.
