Senate Republicans have put a hold on Obama Federal Communications Commission nominee.
That’s good. It gives Trump a chance to nominate a new FCC member in January.
And it’s important because Democrat FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler said in March he might not resign, as is customary when a new President is inaugurated.
If Wheeler doesn’t resign and a Democrat is appointed to the open spot, Democrats would have a 3-2 majority on the FCC. Because of FCC term lengths, Democrats would keep the majority well into Trump’s term.
Why do Democrats want the FCC so badly?
Because the FCC controls the internet.
Democrats are trying to retain control of the internet.
“Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and President Obama are taking one more stab at retaining control of the Internet before they leave Washington.
Harry Reid and President Obama are circulating a petition to remove the hold on FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel so that she can be reconfirmed before Congress recesses next week.”
And some are saying this might happen.
Why would Senate Republicans allow this? Are they asleep on the watch?
“Multiple DC sources have confirmed to GotNews that an effort to give Democrats control of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for months into Trump’s presidency is actually being led by Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell himself.
McConnell has reached an agreement with President Barack Obama and Democratic Senator Harry Reid to trade away control of the FCC for in exchange for confirmation of his own staffer, Neil Chatterjee, to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).”
Will McConnell make a sweetheart deal with Obama in one last backroom deal? Will he give Democrats the FCC so his friend can get a job?
Not if Conservatives stand up.
Here’s how you can:
Don’t let the Senate force a Democratic FCC on President Trump
